Subsequently he has been Director of the Middle East and North Africa Department as well as Ambassador to Jordan, Iraq and Italy. Here's a poem to finish the email, as suggested by Claire Moryan. (Keep sending me poems and quotes, guys!! You don't want it always coming from me, do ya?!)

Let us live, my Lesbia, and love.
As for all the rumors of those stern old men,
Let us value them at a mere penny.
Suns may set and yet rise again, but
Us, with our brief light, can set but once.
One never-ending night must be slept.
Give me a thousand kisses, then a hundred.
Then, another thousand, and a second hundred.
Then, yet another thousand, and a hundred.
Then, when we have counted up many thousands,
Let us shake the abacus,[3] so that no one may know the number,
And become jealous when they see
How many kisses we have shared.

Vivamus mea Lesbia, atque amemus,
rumoresque senum severiorum
omnes unius aestimemus assis!
soles occidere et redire possunt:
nobis cum semel occidit brevis lux,
nox est perpetua una dormienda.
da mi basia mille, deinde centum,
dein mille altera, dein secunda centum,
deinde usque altera mille, deinde centum.
dein, cum milia multa fecerimus,
conturbabimus illa, ne sciamus,
aut ne quis malus inuidere possit,
cum tantum sciat esse basiorum.

Call for MCR officer nominations!

Dear Kelloggians,

I hope this email finds you well!

On Monday, former MCR President and Returning Officer Amanda Shriwise will be releasing a call for nominations for the MCR Committee 2013-14. All positions are open for election, and we would love for you to consider becoming involved in the Committee.

To this end, I have attached a guide on how people can become involved in the MCR Committee. It has a full run through and break down of all of the positions, as well as some pointers as to what you could gain from the experience. I really hope that this document is useful for any of you interested in investing into our community.

It's hard to believe that my time as your President is drawing to a close! Whilst this is certainly not the last email you will receive from me (I'm afraid!!), it does seem like an opportune time to thank you all so much for your support during this past year. I hope that I have made a positive difference to life at Kellogg, and I would like to thank you all most sincerely for helping to make our college such a wonderful place to work and study.

I would also like to thank all of our committee members who have this year been such a support to me and who have worked hard for the Common Room, and to the members of staff who have consistently endorsed student endeavours.

With warmest wishes and many thanks,
Harriet

The Kellogg College Tempest Ball - 22nd June 2013

“O, wonder!
How many goodly creatures are there here!
How beauteous mankind is! O brave new world,
That has such people in't!”
― William Shakespeare, The Tempest

Surely the Bard must have been describing Kellogg when he wrote these words. To the goodly and beauteous Kelloggian community I present some very exciting news!

Tickets for the inaugural Kellogg College ball, THE TEMPEST, are on sale NOW!

We are proud to be offering Oxford's best value ball this year. Each ticket costs £50 and is inclusive of a hot buffet dinner, champagne reception, copious amounts of cocktails and a veritable feast of sweet treats and snacks- not to mention the full menu of music and entertainment that the ball committee is currently working hard to firm up. We will be offering a swing band, an acapella group, a seven piece funk and soul band, a jazz singer AND a Silent Disco- so there is bound to be something to suit your tastes. As you make your way through our decorated island, you will also find magicians, artists and amusements galore.

Kellogg has never before had a full-scale ball and so this year will be an exciting first. Come and celebrate the end of a glorious year on the lovely lawns of your very own college. Both the interior and exterior will be decorated to suit our theme. Whether or not there is an actual tempest outside to match the theming we cannot say- but whatever the weather we will have elegant venues for you to enjoy.

To purchase your tickets or to see what we have on offer, visit our website:

www.kelloggball2013.com

It has lots of information about the evening's events, as well as a summary of the play. Tickets are purchased through the university's online shop, links to which can be found on the Tickets webpage.
